Of all the DC sites we are taking in again as if for the first time, the National Zoo may be my favorite. Everything from the gorgeous drive up the Rock Creek Parkway to the thoughtful habitats to getting to walk all the way up hill and then all the way down back to the car makes for a wonderful experience. The surprise 72-degree June day, smaller crowds, and experience of wonder on the part of both kids was just the icing on the cake.
We read The One and Only Ivan recently, and took time to really appreciate the habitats and thoughtfulness of the zookeepers towards the animals.
